RPAS Flight Review Exams
An advanced RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) flight review exam is a critical evaluation that pilots must pass to obtain an Advanced RPAS Pilot Certificate in Canada. This exam is designed to assess a pilot's ability to safely operate a drone under more complex conditions than those covered by a basic certification.
The flight review typically includes both a theoretical and a practical component. The theoretical part tests the pilot's knowledge of aviation regulations, flight operations, safety procedures, and emergency protocols. The practical component involves a hands-on evaluation where the pilot demonstrates their skills in operating the drone, including pre-flight checks, takeoff, navigation, maneuvering, and landing, as well as handling potential emergency situations.
The advanced certification is required for operations that fall under more restrictive or higher-risk categories, such as flying drones near people, at night, in controlled airspace, or beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). Passing the flight review exam ensures that the pilot is proficient and understands the responsibilities and safety requirements for advanced drone operations.
